New Year, New Routine

Goodbye, morning nap. I will miss you, and the opportunity to get the house picked up and ready for the day! Hello, insane toddler. And currently, one with a nose like a faucet. At least she seems to enjoy wiping her own nose on a burp cloth. She is, after all, a big girl.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! We are thrilled to have our healthy Abby back, and little miss was running around at full speed (and volume) all day. We're now in the process of figuring out how to get back to "normal" - like Abby not screaming when she's tired and Dad tries to help her out instead of Mom. Slowly but surely. Happy she's feeling better!

Tonight, we headed to the Kantowski's house for a party. We brought PJs and prepared to put Abby in a travel crib for a while so we could celebrate until after midnight, but ultimately decided to quit while we were ahead. So we partied early, and then were home by 9:30. Rock stars, we are.

Abby dressed up like the party girl she is, including wearing her "pretties," what we call her necklace.

We were a little nervous at first - there were a lot of tears from Abby (who did not nap in the afternoon, on top of her recent amplified stranger danger attitude). But, after some food, she warmed up for a while.

Sick Baby Blues

Abby has been sick for a week now. She's finally coming around a bit, but massive teething (we think) is interfering with getting back to 100% to Abby power. She's waking up one or two times each night screaming, and only wants Mama to do anything - put her to sleep, pick her up, rock her in the middle of the night. Sometimes, it's sweet. Other times, downright infuriating.

It's been a long 7 days around here, preceded by a week of teething before that. A lot of kids are barely bothered by teething, but our Abby starts acting out weeks in advance of a teeth. Sensitive soul. She actually pointed at her Tylenol today, signed "more" and said it was "nummy numma." Great. We'll book our slot on TV's Intervention now.

This is Abby after a recent round of throwing up. She felt immediately better, so once we got the soiled clothes off of her, she picked up the nearest accessory, her teddy bear hat.
One of the worst parts of Abby being sick is her OBSESSION with Baby Einstein's Baby McDonald. This video is generally reserved for when I need to mop or Abby is very overtired. Now, she asks for it All Day Long.
And yes, she always stands this close.
Timing is unfortunate since it ran through Christmas, and Abby and I have postponed our field trip to Valparaiso we'd planned for tomorrow to see her Uncle Josh. Feel better, baby girl!

Christmas Day

When the kids got up, they got to open their presents. Cole was more interested than Abby in the unwrapping. He'll get all the chicks in his new car.

Abby wanted to play with the ribbon...
...And more importantly, wear the ribbons. More "pretties"!

Storm, canine matriarch, kept an eye on the events at a safe distance.
Ralph and Sadie often blended into one dog throughout the holiday.
New Christmas outfit from Nana and Poppy! All decked out in gingerbread characters.
Abby was a good big cousin. She pulled out toys to give to Cole while he had his bottle.
"...But maybe I'll keep this one for myself...."

The little ones open their stockings:
Abby let Cole play in her old jumper. She liked to start the piano music for him.
Because we're idiots, this is the only picture we got of the cousins together. Oops. Nothing posed - or smiling.
Abby and Daddy got caught up on world events.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas Eve

We spent the Christmas holiday locally. Unfortunately, Abby isn't 100% - She has the double whammy of some wicked teething mixed with something going on with her stomach. So, smiles for the camera were a little harder to come by and she generally wanted to be picked "up up up" by her Mommy. Overall, she was a trooper and she loved seeing her cousin Cole, Aunt Katie, and Uncle Brad!

Before we headed to Nana and Poppy's, we opened presents at home. Abby liked her ornament of a sequin-covered Converse shoe. She also dove right into a puzzle.
Since she is such a great helper pushing her big stroller, she now as a doll and stroller of her own. Hopefully, she'll enjoy doing some dual walks with both of our "babies" this summer!
Abby got dolled up to go over to see everyone. She loves to wear her "pretties" and has a special necklace she wears.
Cole was festive in his Christmas PJs.
Abby got a fun holiday dress and sweater for the Christmas Eve church service at Our Saviour's. She liked the candlelight portion the best.
We ran into Kate's childhood friend, Sarah, who had her little sweetie Emma with her. Emma's already got eyes for Cole.

Nana gives some love to her other grandchild, Sadie.
Cole may have lost his pants, but he still loves to play airplane (and chewing his fingers).
Abby had a tougher time in the evenings. She spent a little time getting some Poppy hugs after her bath.
Here is what my pregnant self missed out on at the Jensen house: Such. Good. Wine.
After the kids headed to bed, the adults opened their gifts.

Sadie liked to keep an eye out for Poppy hopping out of his chair:
Ralphie enjoyed the puppy presents:
Brad and I got into a camera shoot-off; I think he won.
Bella found it all to be just exhausting.
Katie prepares for her next burglary:
It's good to get all of us into one house!

First Time Sledding

Abby had her first adventure sledding in our yard today, and her first full bundling in snowsuit and real boots. I think the dog has been waiting for this opportunity:

When I first put the snowsuit on, I went to get the camera only to find she hadn't moved an inch when I returned - she couldn't.

Once she recovered from toppling over inside the house, we headed out on the sled. To the old day camp staffers with whom I used to work, I think this is the revamped version of "Watch the Man Run." Abby loved it, and we're glad Sadie got into the mix, too.

A snowmobiler in the making!

Trains at the Arboretum

On Friday, we met Jen and Madeline Hay at the Arboretum to see the holiday train display.  Both of the girls thought it was pretty cool.  I do, think, though, that Abby's favorite part was running laps in the Visitor Center. Madeline is two now, and has changed so much - she really is a little girl now, not a toddler! She encouraged Abby to eat her lunch, and was great about encouraging Abby to run along with her afterwards.

Madeline is going to be a great big sister!
